The 15050SA has the sort of charm that collectors tend to appreciate more with time. Created for the Japanese market to celebrate 50 years of Audemars Piguet in Japan, it was limited to just 200 pieces, with the occasion marked not on the dial but on the movement itself through a special “50” rotor visible beneath the sapphire caseback. There is something wonderfully understated about that, a detail meant to be discovered rather than announced. At 33mm, the watch also wears with far more presence than the number suggests, closer to a 36mm Datejust thanks to the Royal Oak’s design. Finished in steel and yellow gold with a grey Tapisserie dial, it captures a very particular era of AP, one where proportion, restraint and small hidden details gave a watch its personality.
